A little bit of history
In 2002, at the Bishkek summit concluding the International Year of Mountains, the General Secretary of Norway Kim Traavik made a proposal to support Kyrgyzstan in developing the concept of ecotourism using the Norwegian experience of implementing the model of the development outdoor tourism by the small providers of tourist services. The program mentioned above was developed by the DNT. Throughout the history both countries – Norway and Kyrgyzstan – were dependent on the human activity which provided people with the necessary means to survive in the mountainous regions. At the same time the significance of the mountain tourism and activities relevant to it was growing gradually. It became important for the economical development of both countries which already had a big experience in nature-conservative ecotourism.
