The ancient caravanserai Tash- Rabat is situated around 520 km from Bishkek, 125 km (1.5 hours) from Naryn, 17 km from the end of the paved road (just after a spare airstrip) 90km (1.5 hours) from the border at Torugart, at an altitude of about 3500m above sea level. It is considered to be one of the most well-preserved caravanserai at the silk road, and “the only place that has preserved its original atmosphere”. The carefully restored stone building which used to be inn in the old times, dates probably from 10th century , when this area was firstly occupied. 15 km above the foothills of the Tian Shan mountains, you can find a beautiful valley, perched on the hillside. There is evidence that this place was used for rest and protect caravans traveling to China and back from the violent weather and thieves, even before the time of Tamerlane and Genghis Khan.
